( DDLC) is a 2017 freeware visual novel developed by American independent game studio Team Salvato for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux. Leading to some whiplash moments of conflicting tones and moods. Mostly Sayonika and Naturi shipping fuel. Then the mod tries to make you forget all that nonsense with some cutesy "wholesome" girls bonding moments. And yet holds on fondly and dearly to the memories and relationship she has with Monika which should also be just as fake. She also tosses aside all her memories of him calling them fake. Even though that's exactly what she wanted to happen in the game. Claiming she no longer wanted to be friends with him if he joined to get close to one of them. Sayori I believe got the worst of the mischaracterizing as even before Monika told her the truth (well half-truth as she continently left her involvement out of it the first time she explained things) she was already showing dislike for the MC. But there's no reason to take gleeful joy in slowly beating and stabbing and torturing a defenseless MC tied to a chair. If they needed to kill the MC to sever the connection with the player to free themselves then fine, whatever. They take pleasure in hating, insulting and physically harming him because of a loose connection he has with the player all because Monika told them they should hate the player. Despite Monika knowing that the player and the MC are to separate entities and Monika's believe that he is an NPC with no free will simply following a script she and the other girls act like he and the player are either one and the same or that the MC is the player's willing sentient partner in crime. The whole premise of the mod just forgot about. Not only that but aside from Monika's monologue in the beginning the player plays no role in the actual mod until the very end where he narrates watching the MC walk to school. Except instead of witnessing how horrible the player is first hand we're given a second hand account from a clearly biased Monika. The girls trying to break free from the grasps of an evil sadistic player. Lost Ascension was one of the worst mods I've seen. ![]()
